Prince Harry on how to deliver a great speech
Prince Harry delivered a best man speech that was deemed to be a roaring success by the wedding guests at William and Kate's wedding on 29th April 2011. When William announced his choice of best man, his brother Harry, the news was greeted with delight. Harry is renowned for his sense of fun and love of partying so it came as no surprise to those that know him well that he felt he might have to tone down his best man speech if the Queen was present. It seems that the Queen was loathe to cramp his style and Her Majesty gave the evening celebrations a miss. Prince Harry was on form having reportedly been working solidly on his speech for a whole fortnight. There's nothing like being prepared is there Harry?!!! He did, however, have the sense (apparently) to practice and use his close friends as a sounding board. The reports claim Harry did actually heed their advice and take out some of the content that made reference to Kate's faboulous pair of pins! It has been reported that the overall impression of Prince Harry's best man speech was that it was "warm and affectionate" with more than a touch of humour. And speaking of impressions - Harry really injected his own personality into his speech by doing impressions of his brother, Prince William and Kate. There were howls of laughter as Harry "did" William calling Kate "baby" and Kate affectionately calling William "Billy". He even managed to speak in a high pitched voice when taking off Kate. Guests were keen to spread the word that Harry was an excellent best man. He clearly holds his older brother in high esteem and the love these brothers hold for one another was evident for all to see. But, that didn't stop Harry holding back on the jokes at his brother's expense. In true best man style he peppered his speech with jokes causing much hilarity with references to some of his other Royal relatives. He brought a smile to everyone's lips when he pointed out the fact that his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh had to look up to Catherine, the new Duchess of Cambridge because she was wearing some killer heels. So it just goes to show that it doesn't matter who you are or how big and important the guest list might be - the rules of making a best mans speech are the same. Tell it from the heart - make it personal, and of course, add a dash of humour. And that's exactly what Prince Harry has achieved with his best man speech.
