Maid of Honour Duties for the Big Day!

Wedding preparations

Your role as Maid of Honour is to help the bride in any way you can leading up to, during and immediately after the big day. This means your duties could be anything from helping to keep her stress levels down, offering an objective opinion or even helping her organise the whole shebang!

Matron of Honour Top Tips

1. The bride may ask you to visit various venues with her to see how suitable they are.
2. Once you’ve chosen the location it’s a good idea to meet the people who are going to be in charge on the day.
3. If you are a very organised person the bride may need your help working a plan so everything works like clockwork.
4. Choosing the wedding dress – this is her big day. She will want an honest opinion and lots of reassurance when she finally makes her choice.
5. When it comes to choosing the bridesmaid dresses you will have much more of an input. Consider styles and colours that will suit the colouring and size of all the bridesmaids.
6. Help the bride to choose her stationary, decorations and favours for the wedding. This is often a fun time for everyone making up the favours and writing out the place settings and invitations.
7. Things may get a bit complex when it comes to making the seating arrangements so be on hand to offer words of guidance.
8. Arrange a bridal shower with the other bridesmaids.
9. And now you come into your own. It’s time to organise …..

The Hen Party.

These days hen parties range from a girly night in to a week’s clubbing in Majorca! So have a chat with the bride first and see what she has in mind.

Take a look at Babes in the Woods for some unique, unusual and fun ways to spend a hen weekend.

And on the day

10. Have a checklist prepared for the day.
11. Visit the reception to make sure all is going according to plan. You can then reassure the bride and bride’s mother that all is under control.
12. Arrive early at the Bride's parent’s house to help with her wedding preparations, her hair, make up and dress.
13. Does she have everything she needs: Bouquet, jewellery, something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
14. Make sure the bridesmaids are ready on time and help the bride’s mother where you can.
15. Help organise the bridesmaids for the photos before you leave for the ceremony.
16. At the ceremony last minute checks, help her with her veil before she walks down the aisle.
17. You and the best man will witness the signing of the marriage licence
18. Join the receiving line at the reception
19.You may want to prepare the bridal suite with the other bridesmaids. Petals and chocs are always a winner for any bride so have a chat with the best man before the big day because he may have other ideas.
20. Help the bride change into her going away outfit if she wants to.
21. Return any borrowed or hired items after the wedding.

And finally …….

Don’t forget to ENJOY YOURSELF!!!
